Employment requirements and residence abroad. - What does this mean for you? Hello and welcome! This video is about the new rules for residence abroad and employment, which may affect the amount of your cash allowance from 1 July 2025. If you are a citizen of Denmark, Greenland or the Faroe Islands and have always lived in one of the three countries, the rules will not affect you. However, if you have been abroad or have not had a job for a period of time, there might be something you need to pay attention to. Let's review what the new rules mean for you. The residence requirement means, that you must have stayed in Denmark, Greenland or the Faroe Islands for 9 out of the last 10 years. The employment requirement means, that from July 1, 2025 you must have worked, the equivalent to full-time employment for 2.5 years within the last 10 years, equivalent to 4810 hours. If you meet the residence and employment requirements, you will be entitled to a higher benefit, unless you live with one or both of your parents. If you have been abroad for more than 12 consecutive months, it can affect the size of your social assistance. This also applies, if you entered from abroad after 1968. There are special rules if you e.g. is a Nordic citizen or have entered from a country in the European Union. It is important, that you review the information about residence abroad and the employment requirement, that we have written to you, and that you call us, if you have any other information. We check the employment requirement through the income register. If you have your own business, you must call us, as it may affect the amount of your social assistance. If you receive social assistance at a minimum rate according to §16, paragraph 2, you will be subject to a 37 hour work obligation. If you receive social assistance as a supplement to your pension, you only need to meet the residence requirement, for the calculation to be made on the basis of the increased rate.
